Are you looking to join a fast-paced team delivering industry leading wireless products? Microsoft's Surface is looking for a talented individual to join the Radio Frequency (RF) team to lead the development of RF hardware designs for wireless-enabled consumer electronic devices (cellular, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc.). You will be part of a multi-function product development team where you will work cross-functionally with antenna engineers, Software/Firmware engineers, verification teams, factory test teams, and program managers delivering best-in-class wireless solutions for mass-production devices.

We are looking for a Senior Radio Frequency Engineer with extensive industry experience to lead RF hardware design for our next generation of Surface devices. A mix of technical breadth and depth will allow you to work cross-functionally with different disciplines (Industrial Design, Mechanical, Electrical, Thermal, Software, Firmware, and manufacturing technology) to develop compelling innovative products. You will work across internal teams to manage RF systems, select key strategic components, and work with a motivated team to develop and deliver the product to the market. You will also use your product development experience to provide leadership and guidance to the RF team and development partners.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 11+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (specialization in Radio Frequency and/or Antenna Engineering), Physics, or related field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering (specialization in Radio Frequency and/or Antenna Engineering), Physics, or related field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience.
  • 10+ years of experience designing, implementing, and shipping consumer electronics products with responsibility for the RF sub-system.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (specialization in Radio Frequency and/or Antenna Engineering), Physics, or related field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering (specialization in Radio Frequency and/or Antenna Engineering), Physics, or related field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering (specialization in Radio Frequency and/or Antenna Engineering), Physics, or related field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience.
  • Problem solving and debugging skills with a understanding of core engineering principles, fundamental circuit design, and analytical techniques is required.
  • Experience working with Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering teams to ensure a low-noise system design.

Radio Frequency Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee schematics, PCB layout, and BOMs review to meet the design requirements.
  • Mange the production of RF lineup analysis to ensure a robust design that achieves end-product certification and performance requirements.
  • Collaborate with Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software, design verification, manufacturing test, and other design disciplines to optimize the RF sub-system within the product from concept to completion in the factory, including addressing robust system integration to minimize RF desense.
  • Provide support to the factory, regulatory (EMI, EMC) and reliability teams to achieve requirements associated to the RF sub-system.
  • Manage the prototypes and evaluation of new product ideas or technology concepts.
  • Oversee design/debug investigations and support development, maintenance, failure analysis, and resolution activities.
  • Oversee project documentation including specifications, schematic diagrams, PCB layouts, schedules, and presentations to meet requirements and communicate the RF hardware design and its progress.
