The new iPhone 15
Tuesday, September 5th, 2023 12:18 AM
I have an iPhone 14 Pro that is damaged on the back. I accidentally dropped the phone a couple of weeks ago, which allowed water to enter it. The water has caused the camera to become nonfunctional. I want to see if I can replace the phone, but I'm not sure if I need to pay off the remaining payments on it first. I went to the Apple Store, and they can't do much about it. They said I would need to replace it fully.

The only “replacement” option is if you had insurance on the phone. If so, make a claim with insurance. If not, you’re on your own. You still owe whatever balance is remaining on the phone, even if it’s completely non-functional. You can’t trade it in to AT&T because it’s not paid off, plus the phone is damaged, so they won’t take it. Your only option without insurance is to either buy a replacement, or pay to have the phone repaired, both on your dime.

If you don’t have insurance then you have to buy a new one

If you want to buy the replacement from ATT on an installment plan, yes, you must pay off the broken phone. You could also buy the replacement from Apple and continue to make monthly payments on the broken phone.
