Entertaining ·

The first time I tried to hang a balloon garland, it was a real struggle. I thought it was going to be a very easy process so I procrastinated putting it up. In the process, I popped balloons, had it fall down twice, and lost ALL patience trying to get it attached to the wall. So today, I’m sharing some times and tricks for how to hang a balloon garland.

Hopefully this tutorial will save you a few tears and frustrations. After I got the hang of it once, balloon garlands became much easier. They really elevate your decor at a party, shower, girl’s night, bachelorette weekend, etc!

Step 1: Blow up your balloons.

I recommend using a balloon hand pump. Trying to actually blow up all those balloons will make you winded. You can kind of just put them on the floor until you are ready to string your balloon garland. Blow up different sized balloons to create more dimension in your garland.

Step 2: Thread your balloons into balloon arch tape.

I used this from a kit the first time, but then purchased some from Amazon. Some people use yarn or sticky dots to put their balloons together. I have just found that the tape is easier to use. Grouping your balloons into random sized groups of four works the best for me. For example: two large, a medium and a small in one group then two medium, a large and a small in another.

Step 3: Add additional decor.

If you want to add additional balloons, leaves, florals or anything else, add them now. You can use glue dots to assemble.

Step 4: Fasten to the wall.

Once all of the balloons are on your balloon “tape,” you will need to fasten to the wall. I recommend using fishing wire and command hooks. Tie fishing wire to each end of the garland with a knotted loop at the end. Make sure you have enough length to accommodate the width of the balloons against the wall. Place your command hooks on the wall where you want the end of your garland and loop the fishing wire over the hook.

Step 5: Finalize your garland.

Carefully adjust any balloons you feel are out of place. Add any additional garland or florals. Be very careful not to pop any balloons.
