About the Knowledge Hub

The C40 Knowledge Hub is a resource for cities wanting to act on climate change. It is designed for every city, regardless of C40 membership.

C40 is a global network of nearly 100 mayors of the world's leading cities that are united in action to confront the climate crisis.

The C40 network is a set of major cities around the world that have committed to fighting climate change. It also supports their development and economies in ways that are respectful to the environment and the well-being of society The main goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Cities in the C40 network earn their membership through action; membership operates on performance-based requirements, not on fees. Our Leadership Standards set the minimum requirements for all member cities and safeguard the integrity of C40 as a network of climate leaders.

C40 declarations (also known as accelerators) are public commitments made by cities to curb emissions in sectors that are some of the greatest urban contributors to the climate crisis, including buildings, transportation and waste.

2006 – By 2006, the C40 Steering Committee invited a further 22 mayors to join, ensuring balance from the Global South, creating an organisation of 40 cities, and thus the name C40. That year, President Bill Clinton's Climate Initiative (CCI) became our implementing partner on world-class climate action projects.

That's why C40's mission is to halve the emissions of its member cities within a decade, while improving equity, building resilience, and creating the conditions for everyone, everywhere to thrive.

In a move to champion inclusive global leadership in climate action, C40 Cities today announced its new co-chair model with Mayor of London Sadiq Khan and Mayor of Freetown Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr as co-chairs of the organisation.

With direct supervision by C40's Regional Director for North America, the Chicago C40 City Director had access to a broad network of urban climate expertise, including international peers and city contacts.

Is Phoenix a C40 city? ›

Phoenix moves to Phase Two of C40 Reinventing Cities Program. Phoenix is one of 12 international cities participating in the third edition of the Reinventing Cities program. The City of Phoenix has shortlisted three finalist teams to participate in Phase Two of the C40 Reinventing Cities program.

Participating cities include: Almere, Bilbao, Bologna, Brussels, Glasgow, Milan, New York, Palermo, Renca, Rome, San Antonio, San Francisco, São Paulo, Seattle and Venice.

Nanjing provided advice and medical aid to other C40 member cities, including Boston, Portland, Vancouver, Seattle, Cape Town, Barcelona, San Francisco, Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro, Heidelberg, Santiago and San Diego.

The Climate Pledge Commits US$10 million to C40 cities to kick-start the development and deployment of zero-emission electric trucks and charging infrastructure across major cities in India and Latin America.

Through C40, NYC is also a signatory of the Good Food Cities Accelerator Program. Cities committing to this accelerator work with residents to achieve a 'Planetary Health Diet' for all by 2030, with balanced and nutritious food, reflective of the culture, geography, and demography of their residents.

Uses of C40

The C40 is used for making structural steel products like Round Bars, IBeam, Channels, Angles, etc. The C40 carbon steel round bar is used by the automotive industry, aerospace industry, automobile industry, Oil Industry, civil engineers, mechanical engineers, etc.
